Ethics in Exodus

What are we to make of Moses’ killing of the Egyptian? Under many national laws, it was a legitimate act of defense. The text gives no ethical analysis of the event, but it certainly does not end well for Moses. Even the Israelites fail to see his actions as legitimate.
